It was ok. Small place . Food made with lots of ingredients and sauces. Lots of risotto and polenta on menu .Food was tasty and portions are large but I've had better.
They are great people as far as owner and workers. Very friendly and are there to make your stay pleasant. Food is outstanding. One of our best places to go.
Both were well presented. The reason for 4 stars shrimp/scallops was not hot rather marginally warm, my wife had the same comment. Once I dug into the center of the linguine finally was hot. We both also felt the dishes coming out of the kitchen could have been a little faster. The wait staff was very attentive, polite and professional. Prices were reasonable.
Our first visit staff was warm and welcoming. We didn't realize Axton's was BYOB as they don't advertize as being BYOB. Bread was warm with a side of balsamic vinaigrette. I ordered Clams casino as an appetizer, presentation was well done and delish. My entree was shrimp, scallops over linguine and marinara sauce. My wife ordered the ravioli special.
Reservation for 5:45 saturday arrived way before. Table was ready by 6:05. I understood! Ordered NJ Tomato salad, $9, a not so riped tomato on lettuce with feta cheese, very little taste. Ordered the Axton's, pork, also, nothing unusual. Was loaded with this spicy dark souce, the same souce that overpowered the calamari. In both cases the dish was over souced. After the dessert, the waitress apologized that she needs to clean the table because another party is waiting. Mediocre at best. Not recommended.
Great Italian food. Bread is made from scratch and baked in the kitchen. Kitchen is designed so you can watch the chef prepare your meal (Awesome concept).We became friends with staff as well as with the regulars we see every time we dine there. My favorite local Italian resturant by far.
